During many breast reductions, the nipple-areolar complex is moved to a higher, more central position on the breasts while remaining attached to the breast tissue and blood supply. During a free nipple graft breast reduction, the nipple-areolar complex is removed from the breast and reattached as a skin graft. This technique is most commonly used for women with very large or pendulous breasts who undergo significant reductions.
